Dr. Anthony Montez
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a PhD in Human Services with a specialization in counseling. My therapeutic style includes the concept that the counselor/client relationship is, in itself, a clinical helping strategy. My clinical style also includes narratives, vignettes, or brief stories designed to help illustrate or illuminate client circumstances in a non-threatening manner. This technique encourages clients to derive parallels to their own circumstances. I work with individuals and couples. Historically, most of my clientele have been adults/couples, followed by adolescents, and then older children. I currently work with adults only. Most of my therapeutic services involve adult relationship issues. These include adjusting to major life events and various forms of loss including health, divorce, empty nest issues, and intimacy problems. People commonly experience symptoms consistent with depression and anxiety during these life events. Additionally, I work with attention deficit disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, work related stress problems, adjustment issues, and general faith or spiritual issues. However, I am not a Christian based or Faith based therapist. Like most mental health clinicians, I have an eclectic approach to counseling in that I borrow from several theories of human behavior and development. However, I gravitate to the existential/transpersonal model in that I'm interested in what the person is experiencing today while considering the concept that people are spiritual beings embodied. I incorporate the cognitive behavioral model and, at times, utilize a more psychoanalytic model exploring the person's childhood experiences within a developmental context. My personal counseling philosophy consists of three fundamental pillars: 1. Human beings are spiritual beings embodied (Existential/Transpersonal Theory). 2. My clientele and I are more alike than different. Things important to me, as a person tend to be important to all people in general. For this reason, a positive counselor/client relationship may function as a therapeutic strategy. 3. The people I serve have the answers they seek before treatment begins. The therapeutic process serves to illuminate paths/options so that answers become more clearly visible. AVAILABILITY SCHEDULE I schedule 8 sessions per day, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. I take an hour break from 12:00pm - 1:00pm. This schedule enables me to provide 40 sessions per week, each session lasting 45 minutes.
Dr. Philip Townsend
I am a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience in private practice, providing individual and family psychotherapy. Clients with whom I have worked have presented with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, concerns about major life changes, parenting styles, academic direction, and personality disorders. The population I serve range from 10 years old to senior citizens. My treatment style is mainly based upon identifying an individual's strengths, and developing the tools that will best provide actualization of personal goals. The method employed to develop these action plans is drawn from cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, client centered therapy, and relationship therapy. I have learned that the most effective psychotherapy is provided by matching theoretical constructs with personal skills. I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston. My clinical experience began when I was in the U.S. Army. During my first year of service, I was commissioned to provide psychological services to all military personal at West Point Military Academy. My next assignment was in Viet Nam, where I became the noncommissioned officer in charge of the Mental Hygiene Clinic within the stockade at Long Bin, where I worked with American soldiers detained for problems of misconduct. Following my military service, I was hired by Texas Rehabilitation Commission to develop psychological service for the first program that was designed to work with adolescents. My next position was to establish a private practice, where I primarily focused on the delivery of psychotherapy. For over 20 years, I also was a consultant for three public school districts. Within that capacity I consulted with teachers, counselors and administrators in the development of programs designed for special need populations. I look forward to joining you in your quest toward personal development. I believe that all concerns, questions and attitudes deserve to be respectfully addressed. And I extend the promise to all with whom I work, that I will never say something nice just to make you feel good. Our objective will be to enhance self-esteem through honest communication and unconditional positive regard.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Cross Plains counselor?
Before seeing your Cross Plains therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Cross Plains therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.
Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Cross Plains licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Cross Plains counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Cross Plains, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Cross Plains has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
