Tara Brisnehan
Hello and welcome. My name is Tara and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Arizona. Counseling any person, no matter where they have come from, or what challenges they are struggling with, is my passion. I enjoy helping people achieve what they desire in this life. Whether it is to have a better marriage, learn how to deal with depression, less anxiety with every new situation that arises, or parenting struggles, I can help. I love helping people to be the very best versions of themselves and giving them the tools to help with varying hurdles in life. Life can be so tough, and seeking counseling is a very brave first step and I am so grateful you came here. We all go through hills and valleys in life, but it's so much better to go through those valleys when you have the right tools in which to deal with the tough times. Life is a gift. Counseling is a gift and I hope to be able to help you with your journey. A little about me. I grew up a military kid and was able to travel the world with my family, which came with some wonderful experiences and also some challenges of having to adjust quickly to different settings. Along the way I met a lot of great people and had the opportunity to learn family dynamics, and cultures from a very young age. I am grateful to have had to change and move throughout my childhood so that I could end up in this field where I can truly help so many different kinds of people, no matter their background, or what struggles they are going through. I received my bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. I then went on to receive my Masters degree from Argosy University in Phoenix, Arizona. My counseling approach is mindfulness training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused brief therapy. I believe we all have the ability to get where we want to go, but sometimes we need a little help along the way.

The issues I work with in therapy are mind-body issues. I do not have a mental illness approach. What is good for the body is good for the brain and vice versa. My openness and inclusivity influence my approach to therapy. I do not judge. I accept. I am more interested in your uniqueness than your diagnosis and I expect a full recovery in treatment. I fit well with expectations from a person who is here on their own volition, is willing and open to change, and is trying to develop resiliency in life, problem-solving without drama in relationships, and self-respect. I try my best to provide a secure space and collaborate. I take notes and I read them at the end of the session. As opposed to homework, I offer experiments to try between conversations. Depending on preference, I can be direct in helping people identify their goals by collaborating on a treatment plan. I can also be non-direct and identify our goals through the flow of the conversation. A first session with me begins with a casual greeting and formalities regarding confidentiality, rights, and risk assessment questions, followed by a lead-in question to get the ball rolling.

I am grateful for you. No matter who you are, what you have done, you will be accepted. I bring a welcoming and accepting attitude and strong desire to help you enhance your self-understanding but also to help you determine what is best for you. Like Carl Rogers my mentor, I will listen to you as you are accepted wholly. Resources will be suggested in order to enhance your appreciation of yourself, those in your life and the activities you engage in on a regular - seldom basis. We will discuss and develop a personalized self-awareness and -improvement plan and partner in active addressing, modifying and completing of this plan. I bring experience within a family, in helping individuals have better relationships, identify and excel in their self-support and -thriving worlds and to reach out to enhance these as necessary. Gratefully, I have served many populations: new immigrants, medically vulnerable, the un- and under-employed, at-risk students, concerned family members and look forward to welcoming, honoring and serving you, a definite gift. As a bio-psycho-social-spiritual counselor, I believe in treating the whole person. I work from a Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance/Commitment Therapy, and Family Systems approach to counseling. Psychotherapy requires an active effort and commitment from the client, this is important in order to most effectively identify areas of concern and desired treatment goals. Counseling is an exploration of deep, personal life issues and areas of one's life that may have been buried for any number of reasons. If you are ready to reclaim true control in your life or ready to redefine who you are and where you would like to go in life, schedule an appointment with me.
