As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice it's my education, professional experience and dedication to those that I serve that encourages me to continue to provide the type of personal, quality, down-to-earth and relavant counseling that my clients deserve. For more than 20 years I have had the privilege and opportunity to work with a wide range of populations, diagnoses and circumstances. As part of my undergraduate degree, I completed a six month internship with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. My internship with Vocational Rehab allowed me to work with adults faced with emotional and physical limitations that hindered their ability to obtain and maintain successful employment. Shortly after graduating from college, I continued my work in supportive employment serving individuals with developmental disabilities. During this period I also worked part-time in a group home setting with the same population gaining experience in addressing their individual behavioral needs in the home and community. My direct experience in supportive employment led me to work with a larger mental health center in the role of a case manager with adults in need of gaining and maintaining employment. As a case manager I provided ongoing case management services to adult individuals with mental illness, developed and facilitated a job preparation group, and assisted these individuals with referrals to supported employment programs and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. I took advantage of an opportunity to continue to build on my experiences in the social work field and return to school to begin work on my Masters Degree. I later joined an agency that served children in residential, foster care and their own homes. I was employed initially in the role of a case manager and provided on-going case management and 24 hour on-call crisis intervention services to children enrolled in their foster care program. As part of my practicum and continuing after graduation with my Masters, I provided individual, family and group therapy to children, adolescents and their adult parents in a home-based setting. This program primarily served juvenile offenders and their families through the Juvenile Probation Department. My enjoyment of working with not only juveniles and their families, but individuals across all ages led to a period of nine and a half years that I provided therapeutic counseling services to children, adolescents and adults at a local community mental health center. My experiences ranged from managing and directing a partial hospitalization program, to crisis intervention and assessment of all ages through a partnership with the regional hospital. During this period, my main mode of treatment was through providing out-patient individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults. In October of 2008 I started my own private practice "Choices in Counseling". My interest in private practice was driven by increased limitations and constraints in providing services to clients within the mental health center environment. It is my belief that by operating under a private practice model, I am better able to offer more individualized, comprehensive, quality services to my clients.

It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to help clients in the great state of Indiana. I practice from an individualized approach to meet the unique needs of each person, couple and family that I work with and believe psychotherapy is a way of reclaiming our painful experiences and accepting them without allowing them to define us. When working with clients I strive to make the therapy experience genuine, positive, respectful, and safe for everyone. I know that you are the expert of your life experiences and have many strengths that you may not be conscious of that together we will identify and develop in order to overcome any obstacles. I have been practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 25 years, and I received my MSW from the University of Pennsylvania and did a post-graduate certification program in marital, family and sex therapy from the Penn Council for Relationships. I utilize a combination of theoretical approaches that I believe will help you to achieve your treatment goals and take an intersystems' approach to a couple's and family dynamics. I collaborate with the individual, couple and family to meet you where you are and set goals for where you would like to be. For the past 13 years, I have been working full-time with Veterans, Active Duty Service Personnel, and their families, helping them to regain their purpose in life and create a new mission for themselves, as military duty and combat changes people. I, also, enjoy working with caregivers and persons with disabilities, as I am the proud mother of a sons with special needs. I work with individuals, couples and families with current mental health issues that are inhibiting them from living a fulfilled life. It takes the courage and strength to ask for help. I'm a social worker in Ellettsville Indiana, just outside Bloomington. I've worked in Southern Indiana for over 37 years. I was a college counselor at Indiana University for 20 years. Now I'm in private practice. My background is in cognitive behavioral therapy and I use a here and now approach. I believe that nothing in therapy should be a mystery so you can see what we are doing, as we do it. I primarily work with anxiety and depression now but I have experience in much more, ranging from addictions, child and family therapy, chronic mental illness, crisis intervention, geriatrics, and medical social work. In my work in college counseling I gained a lot of experience working with international people from the Far East, India, the Middle East, and Latin America. I'm a life long Hoosier (my family has been here since Thomas Jefferson was president) so I don't rush things. I look forward to working with you. MSSW University of Louisville 1987 LCSW Indiana

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

A psychologist in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

A Blountsville therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. With a lot of people in IN, providers may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 47354 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Blountsville counselor?

Before seeing your therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice. A Blountsville licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles.

Is mental health care and therapy worth it?

Therapy is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health professional has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Blountsville, Indiana can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Blountsville has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
