Originally known as Morehead’s Horse Mill after the founder Charles Morehead in 1870, Central City changed its name in 1882 due to the importance of the Central Coal and Iron Company that was vital to their economy. Although the coal company is no longer there, the city continues to be mainline for freight traffic in the area.

Dr. Cynthia Hanson
I am a doctoral-level psychologist licensed in Kentucky with over 30 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, anger management, physical and emotional trauma, PTSD, and LGBTQ concerns. My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. I place emphasis on the client becoming their own “agent of change” by identifying areas for change or modification. Although I gather information about past history, my primary focus is about determining how to improve psychological, emotional, and life circumstances in the “here-and-now.” I will never tell you "what to do." Instead, I will serve as a guide as you explore and consider the changes you want to make. My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, but I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

Beth Schweichler
I am a LCSW with more than twenty years of clinical experience working with individuals with severe mental illness, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, grief, and trauma. I am EMDR trained and have a passion for working with individuals who are experiencing grief. I also have more than ten years of experience supervising CSW's for licensure. My approach involves supporting clients to find their own answers, gain insight and clarity, and ultimately promote their physical, mental, social, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing so that they may thrive. I identify as a person centered therapist but take an eclectic approach as everyone's needs are different. My work is influenced by my core belief that everyone has the capacity for personal growth and the ability to affect change in their own lives. One of my primary goals is to create a safe space that fosters trust and acceptance for clients. When this safe space is created it encourages self-acceptance, personal growth, self-esteem, and healing. Integral to my process is demonstrating respect for the whole person and the unique experiences, goals, and values that they bring to the process.
