I have experience counseling adolescents and adults in a community health setting for the past 5 years. I have over 16 years of mental health experience as a Qualified Professional in the same setting. I believe my passion for people and their ability to effect change in their lives is my motivation to learn grow and change as a professional counselor. I always strive to provide a client focused and supportive therapy experience for my clients. My theoretical orientation is a person-centered approach combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). These approaches work well together and allow the use of other techniques and skills as needed. I also utilize interventions and assignments from other approaches such as, Reality and Existential Therapy. CBT frames client issues through cognitive functioning. Faulty or false thoughts lead to problematic behavior and the supporting of false thoughts. CBT is present focused and assist clients in identifying and overcoming faulty thinking and therefore changing unhealthy behavior. Person-centered counseling provides unconditional acceptance for clients. I view healthy communication and the therapeutic alliance between client and counselor as a major catalyst to desired outcomes for the client. I look forward to taking your journey with you!

30 years offering treatment

I am an individual and group therapist with over 30 years of experience working with diverse clients over a wide socioeconomic spectrum. The range of client concerns addressed have included: self-esteem and competence challenges, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress sequelae, emotional flooding and interpersonal effectiveness problems, relationship problems, including job-related communications problems, lack of meaning, living with chronic pain and physical illness, challenges in mid-life and aging, and co-occurring disorders such as depression/anxiety/substance abuse. My basic philosophy is that we all have a deep well of wisdom within us to help us move through life’s problems and reach a place of competence and meaning. But often, a combination of skills deficits, negative patterns of thinking, inability to self-soothe and feelings of helplessness, along with lack of access to information or resources, blocks our ability to drink from the well. My job as a therapist is to invite my client into a working partnership in which my client feels safe in self-disclosure as we discern the issues my client wants to address and search for solutions and healing. This partnership is a sacred trust. I welcome the opportunity to work with you.

My name is Sheila Davis. I have been married for 29 years and have four children. My youngest is 17 and still lives at home but the other three have moved out and are working and building a life for themselves. I was a stay at home mom for 13 years and when my youngest went to kindergarten, I went to college. I went to school for seven years straight, obtaining my bachelor's degree in psychology and my master's degree in counseling. Upon completion of my required supervision hours, I obtained my full license and opened up a private practice. I taught myself everything I needed to know about business, taxes, book keeping, billing and coding and was a one man show for the first year. By the end of my first year, my practice had grown so large, I was overwhelmed with client and brought on another counselor and receptionist. This past summer, I added a third counselor to our group. I will be selling my practice this January and will be moving with my family across the country to North Carolina, where I am in the process of obtaining my license. I am excited to have this opportunity to help supplement my income after I sell my business and get settled in my new home. I work with a wide variety of individuals with a wide variety of problems. I specialize in domestic violence and couples counseling, conflict resolution, grief counseling as well as so many other issues that many people face. I primarily approach with a CBT modality but am able to adjust to whatever the needs of each individual client.
