I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LCPC) in Idaho, as well as Nationally Certified Counselor, and I also hold the Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies. I have been a counselor for 12 years in different settings, such as community agencies of different kind, as well as my own practice. Prior to becoming a counselor, I was an adult educator and worked for colleges and business schools. As an educator, I was passionate about motivating each student to find an individual “life’s path” and to use education as a tool. As a counselor, I am passionate about my clients learning about themselves through the discovery of individual strengths and unique abilities to take on the life’s journey. In each session, I strive to encourage my clients to find something about themselves they haven’t noticed before. Depending on my clients’ needs, I use many techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused and many others, but educate on these techniques in the process to help my clients “become their own counselors” and build their own “arsenal” of tools. My counseling style is fluid – I meet my clients “where they are”; at the same time, I have been told by my clients that each session with me gave them different perspective and empowered them to approach life’s problems with unexpected solutions! I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know you!

David provides an eclectic approach in counseling theory and uses Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, Schema Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. He is trained in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback which are good tools to help clients with issues such as depression, anxiety disorders and addiction. David’s initial approach is to develop a trusting relationship with the client. He then works with the client to identify the specific issues. A treatment plan is developed to address these issues. As treatment proceeds this plan may be revised as specific issues come up. When the client completes the plan, he will be reassessed. Depending on the clients progress the client may be discharged with specific goals to work on. If there are still unresolved issues a new treatment plan will be developed and treatment continued. If there are issues that require a different approach David may refer the client to another counselor that specializes in the client’s specific issues. On a personal level David has three adult children and two grandsons. David was raised in the mountains of Wyoming and has a place south of Jackson Hole which he spends as much time as he can. There his closest neighbors are elk, moose, and wolves. David lives most of the time in Boise. I am a professional counselor, licensed in Oregon, with over 15 years of experience. I have worked as both a residential substance abuse treatment counselor and as a outpatient mental health counselor with an employee and family assistance program. I have worked with clients with a broad range of issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns and sexuality. I have also worked with first responders who have experienced trauma. My counseling style is warm and supportive, with a little bit of humor thrown into the mix. All clients will be treated with respect and compassion, regardless of where they are on their life's journey. I strongly believe that the client is the only expert of his/her/their life and it is my job to help each one reach their full potential. We enter counseling to change something in our lives; whatever we are currently doing isn't working. But we must change how we think in order for our new behaviors to have lasting change. To this end, my approach combines cognitive-behavioral, rational-emotive, and client-centered counseling. Just as each client is unique, each treatment plan must be as well. We will work together to create a plan that meets your specific needs. I look forward to our first session!

Everyone needs assistance and guidance from time to time. I have spent the majority of my career in mental health working with the homeless population, youth and individuals with severe mental health concerns. I have helped individuals to navigate a variety of issues. I am comfortable working with individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum, and the LGBTQIA+ population. I believe people should be allowed to grow and progress from whatever type of issues they are struggling with while being treating with compassion, respect and care. Each client should leave a session with tools they can implement in their own lives, even if that is just the release of being able to talk about their troubles or concerns. I approach therapy with a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Sometimes our emotions just become too much for us to deal with on our own. I believe my sessions are compassionate, yet challenging enough to help you grow. My experience is not only academic but personal as well. I hope that you will benefit from speaking with me, and I can help you enrich your life, work toward your goals, and reach your full potential.

Integrated holistic healing is not unidimensional, nor could it be. The concept of integrated healing is one which encompasses the whole. That being the mind, body and spirit of an individual. As an integrated health coach and mental health counselor, this is not simply my job, but my calling and deepest passion. Helping guide individuals who seek a deeper understanding of their inherent sense of wholeness, freedom and liveliness. As a former collegiate athlete, personal trainer, and integrated health coach, responsibility and overcoming adversity have become essential characteristics towards my way of being. These experiences matched with the teachings found at Naropa University allow me to bring forth an alternative approach to mental health counseling. I would love to hear from you. I currently have openings and am exhilarated by the opportunity to work with men, adolescents, and teenagers wanting to improve their mental health. We will work towards seeking greater clarity, fostering awareness, and shifting maladaptive behaviors and ideologies.
