Dr. Jamie Spohn
I am a licensed psychologist with over 11 years experience. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of difficulties. I specialize in traumatic brain injury, concussion, depression, anxiety, women's issues, relationship issues, child and adult ADHD, pain, learning, academic, and work difficulties, self-esteem issues, chronic illness, and adjustment to illness and injury. I believe in treating clients with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My style is empathic and supportive, yet direct. I will challenge my clients to gain more independence and accept responsibility. My primary orientation is cognitive-behavioral, although I do integrate other theoretical orientations on a case-by-case basis. I focus on areas of strength in order to compensate for areas that are not as strong. I prefer a positive approach to problem-solving. I will be sure to treat each case individually and gladly accept your feedback. I look forward to helping you! Also, just an FYI as there has been some confusion, I typically respond one or potentially two times a day, Monday through Friday. I will not typically respond Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays unless there are special circumstances. This also includes use of the “Urgent” button- this button is only to be used in an immediate crisis situation, meaning a life or death situation where an immediate resource is needed to stay safe. Use of this button over a holiday or weekend will likely result in no response until the next working day, UNLESS the message fits the criteria of a crisis situation. Further, if and when you schedule a live session, I am only doing live text at this point, no video or audio. Live text sessions are scheduled in 30 minute blocks. You are able to schedule one of these per week, plus write in your room as often as you wish and expect a response within 24-48 hours Monday through Friday. Thank you, I look forward to working with you!

I consider myself to be very eclectic in my approach blending a client driven approach with strengths that they bring to the table. I believe thoughts lead to actions, that the past and present are of equal importance. I think it is important to bring to light how our past problems, our family systems and our current relationships, depression, trauma and grief can all be interrelated. I believe in helping to raise up the client to become their own advocate. We need to join our client on their journey to become the best version of themselves able to better handle whatever narrative of their life they are writing. I think that my life experiences lend themselves well to most clients and their needs and look forward to helping clients with whatever they need to have help with, no matter how big or small the experience of working through it together is worth it.

I am a licensed counselor in Maryland and Delaware. I have had extensive experience with abuse and trauma, and a range of personal problems and mental illnesses. Following 35 years in a special education school, working primarily with adolescents and their families, I transitioned to private practice close to ten years ago. Since then, I have worked primarily one on one with adults of all ages. Those I currently work with would likely describe me as easy-going, supportive, informal, practical and nonjudgmental. I have considerable respect for anyone who decides to pause at some point in their life and address issues and concerns that might affect quality of life. This takes courage, openness and hopefulness. I can draw on many different approaches however, key to the process, in my opinion, is a partnership and therapeutic relationship. I tend to be psychodynamically-oriented, however I value immediate needs and therefore changing behavior in the here and now may often be the priority. Relatedly, changing thinking patterns and thoughts in the here and now can also be a priority. Hopefully, you can (or will ????), believe that you can change behaviors and thoughts. Given the current pandemic, I have learned to provide therapeutic services remotely. I am surprised at how effective and practical this can be. This is essentially, the basis for my joining Better Help. Please feel free to ask me 100 questions.
