I have been a practicing counselor for 9 years and I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years. I hold a PhD in Counselor Education, with expertise in counselor training, supervision, and professional development. I also specialize in crisis and trauma. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Counselor as well as a Disaster Mental Health Counselor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. I have spent the bulk of my career studying the impact of trauma and how it can direct our thoughts and behaviors. I have worked with individuals across a broad spectrum of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, relationship difficulties, body image, self-esteem concerns, addiction and other life challenges. My therapeutic/counseling style is rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I believe it is an empowering framework that assists clients in recognizing and treating their mental health concerns, by challenging the way we think and how we act on those thoughts. I also will challenge you to move outside of your comfort areas and address those discomforts. In addition to CBT, I practice through a Solution-Focused approach that is helpful in addressing life challenges and stressors. I want you to feel comfortable in our work together and because of that I treat all individuals with respect, kindness and removed of any judgment. It takes great courage to ask for help and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with you as you move forward on this journey to a healthier life and mind. I believe the work we do together, is a collaborative process and I will assist you to learn, grow, and make positive changes that can result in a more fulfilling life. Mary Widseth
Hello, my name is Mary Lynn Widseth, my passion is helping people learn to understand themselves and those around them. I currently hold a master’s degree in Community Psychology and Rehabilitation Counseling. I am a licensed LPC(Licensed Professional Counselor) and certified as a CRC ( Certified Rehabilitation Counselor) whose area of focus is adults. I received my Master’s degree from Saint Cloud State University and a certificate in Autism and my Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin -Stout with a degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. The experience I generated using my bachelor's was working with marginalized groups of adults with cognitive, mental, physical, or communication issues related to working environments. During this time I facilitated group and individual placements and provided transportation. In addition, I provided on-the-job training so the individual understood how to perform their jobs efficiently. Communication with the staff, client, and employer was a crucial component especially when language is a barrier such as Sign Language and conversational Spanish. Another issue where I was able to understand barriers due to my impediments stemming from my diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy at a young age made it easier for me to relate to their struggles. This diagnosis helped me think creatively to resolve issues in environments where one side isn’t as strong as the other. My experience post-master degree has been completing in-home therapy for children aged 7 to 18 and their families for 2 years and an additional 2 years working with adults and children in an office setting as a mental health therapist. During my 2 years in the office, I have worked with adults from many backgrounds including, transgender, bi-sexual, addictions, and surgical alterations of the body for improvement of physique and mental health. The biggest issue children have is in the area of behavior/ emotional regulation, communication, and social/ family relationships, which adults struggle with as well. I have used several techniques that have helped children and their families in resolving these issues. When working with adults I used many therapeutic methods to assist them with anxiety/depression, ADHD, Autism, relationship skills, and overall functioning. Another strength is that I have worked with individuals with language barriers using picture books, rebus boards, and sign language.

Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, grief and loss, caregiving demands, or a growing sense that something in life no longer feels aligned. My approach is warm, conversational, and reflective. Together, we'll explore patterns, gain clarity, and identify meaningful steps forward. While we may occasionally discuss past experiences briefly, our work is primarily focused on the present-day challenges and opportunities in your life. I often work with thoughtful, reflective individuals who are motivated to better understand themselves and create meaningful change. They are open to exploring their thoughts, emotions, and patterns, and willing to continue reflecting on insights between sessions. If you're looking for a supportive, collaborative space to gain clarity, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with greater confidence and intention, I'd be honored to support you. I’m available for sessions by phone or video only and do not offer sessions via messaging. I'm mostly available Monday-Thursday evenings 5-8 and Tuesday-Thursday days 11-2. Individuals exploring support for trauma, parenting, eating disorder, neurodivergence, personality disorders or substance use will benefit from an alternative provider trained in these areas, who can offer specialized treatment interventions tailored to those concerns. Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet.
