I am a Nationally Board Certified Counselor (NCC, 2019); Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC in 2016, LMHCA in 2012) with the State of Washington; and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC , 2022) with the state of Maine. I earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Degree (2012), and have over 40 years of experience in human services, including parent education, teaching, and over 13 years of experience in counseling. My aim is to collaborate with clients to create a nurturing therapeutic environment in which inspiration for healing and forward movement can be visualized and actualized. I facilitate clients in discussing stressors and difficulties, envisioning and realizing goals, examining options, developing skills, viewing relationships and family dynamics, paying attention to culture and socialization, as well as understanding the process of change. The assistance and practical tools I provide are informed by my: a) breadth of life and career experience, b) belief that each client is primarily expert at dealing with their unique concerns, c) training and studies incorporating clinical theories and modalities (listed below) d) depth of conviction about how capable and resilient people can be, and e) wish to encourage and celebrate you as you practice new perspectives, actions or changes you want to make in your life. I use humor (whenever possible), warmth, and empathy in striving to be of service in ways that make a positive difference for people. Nicole Wright
I have spent my career supporting people confronting various life challenges. Participating in grassroots politics for social justice and providing case management in the criminal justice system, introduced me to the underserved. This was the catalyst for pursuing an education in clinical social work. During graduate school, I interned for a government housing agency, and provided individual therapy and psychoeducational classes at a Veterans Affairs hospital. After graduation, I spent several years providing individual and group therapy in an inpatient facility that simultaneously addressed chemical dependency and mental health complications. I also had the privilege of being a medical social worker for a local hospital. I was stationed at a primary care clinic where I collaborated with patients, their families and providers, to achieve health care goals. I met patients at doctor appointments, visited their homes, and assisted in their discharge planning from hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. This gave me insight into the impact of poor physical health on emotional wellbeing, the importance of autonomy in end of life care, and the reality of caregiver burnout. With in these various community mental health roles, it became clear that regardless of which disenfranchised population was facing social injustice, or the specific hardship a person was enduring, there was a common theme. People want to be heard. They want to be valued. Twenty years in the helping field taught me that without the basic tenant of dignity, no technique or therapeutic approach will make a difference. And I can assure you that you ARE worthy of dignity. You are also worthy of love, honor, trust, and respect. I know this may be hard to believe. And as trauma and grief start to accumulate, positive self regard can be replaced with criticism. Feelings of hopelessness and shame become overwhelming. Joy disappears, self-care is nonexistent, and isolation is preferred. Despair and loss of community may lead to addictive behaviors and even thoughts of dying. The time to process past hurts is now. You can create and nurture healthy relationships, increase self-esteem, interact with others more meaningfully, and learn to trust your voice. You have the ability and authority to rewrite your narrative. Choosing therapy takes grit and determination. You have these traits! And you are not alone. It is an honor to accompany you during this sometimes difficult, but tremendously rewarding journey. I am committed to providing an accepting and encouraging space to allow you to heal. Laura Hopf
I am a registered therapist and licensed mental health counselor in the state of Washington with 6 years experience, as this is my second career and life purpose. My experience comes from providing direct mental health therapy and behavioral counseling for youth and caregivers, teens and adults with a variety of presenting issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, gender identity, learning disabilities and relationship challenges. My experience is varied across different settings, as I have provided individual and group therapy in community mental health agencies and day treatment facilities, including experience in intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. I believe that we are all products of our closest relationships, our environment, our family systems, and every moment that leads to the present us. I am licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin with 17 years of professional work experience. In addition to working with generalized anxiety, stress, depression, etc, I specialize in working with neurodiversity (asd, adhd, gifted, 2e, etc), trauma, and recovery from narcissistic abuse. Within my practice I generally utilize an eclectic approach, rooted in acceptance and commitment therapy, to meet people where they are while also gently encouraging them toward continued growth and wellness. I am also trained as an EMDR therapist, which is an effective therapy to heal from traumatic experiences and shift unhelpful beliefs. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing & listening to music, podcasting, writing, hiking, traveling, and playing table-top games. My relational life, as a therapist and otherwise, is guided by the principles of compassion and curiosity. I know we all are doing the best we can and my goal is always to increase compassion, curiously discover what is keeping us from having the life we dream of, and build tools and mindsets to help us move closer to that life.
