You want to live your best life, yet it seems that obstacles keep getting in the way. Hi, I'm Jacqueline Julien. I've been a licensed psychologist for 12 years and worked in a variety of settings, from inpatient treatment to a juvenile detention center to community mental health centers. I'm collaborative in my approach to helping others, after all you know you best and I'm not your father (ah yes, I also like to bring a bit of humor to counseling - that was a Star Wars reference in case you missed it). I work with people who are going through difficult life changes, who are having issues with becoming the person they know they are inside, are suffering from depression or anxiety and parenting. I have also taught university psychology courses since becoming a psychologist. I use an eclectic style (that is just a fancy word for using what works best for you) in my counseling. My style includes you taking an active role in solving your issues, figuring out what you want and how to go after it and how your thoughts, emotions and behaviors interact with each other driving you to (or not to) take action. While how we get to where you are going can vary, I do believe that you want to live your best life and try to reach it. Only at times you don't know how to get there or other obstacles get in your way. I also like to build off what you do well and how you can do more of what you already know to solve the difficulties you are experiencing (even though it may seem like you aren't doing anything well right now). I am straight forward with clients, but not confrontational. I want to see you get through this difficult time in your life and to get to a place you feel good about being. Please note that I only have daytime availability for live sessions.

In her counseling practice, Lura combines aspects of what she loves the most: a deep regard for the spiritual Source within every person; effective therapeutic art processes, and a sound cognitive behavioral therapy approach. For many years, she has had the opportunity to support both adult and teen clients in the process of healing their lives. Lura specializes in helping her clients alleviate the effects of trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as grief and loss issues. She helps them to establish workable, sustainable life goals and healthy relationships. Her clients describe her approach as “direct but compassionate!” and uniquely suited to each individual or couple who meet with her. According to Lura, “We all have a Voice of Wisdom within us. Part of what I do is to help clients get in touch with that Voice.” EXPERIENCE: I have been working as a Counselor and Therapist for many years. My primary work was partially accomplished as a Ministerial Partner with my husband who is a Unity Minister while serving Unity Churches in Clear Lake, Texas; Taos, New Mexico; Charlotte North Carolina; Hartford, Connecticut and Key West, Florida. In 1993, we relocated to Minneapolis, MN where we established a school with a three year course of study to support individuals in personal growth and spiritual maturity. We led the school for 10 years and attracted students from a variety of occupations and religious/spiritual affiliations. Many of our students came from "helping" occupations, (e.g., doctors, nurses. social workers, teachers, etc. ) and this taught us that our approach was valuable and timely. I continued to work as I completed BA and Masters programs and had the advanced opportunity to do practicums in both Counseling and Art Therapy degrees while working for a Psychiatric hospital in Key West, Florida. In 2015 we left Florida, did another round of Interim ministry work in Hartford, CT before moving back permanently to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I joined an established counseling clinic as an associate and worked there from 2016 to 2021. Because of COVID-19, I moved my practice to my home office and have been serving clientele on telehealth services ever since. I am proud of you for taking this first step toward improving your situation! Have you been in therapy before and found it helpful, but weren’t quite ready to make all the changes you wanted in life? Are you ready to do the work and face your shadow side? Looking for a therapist who can be honest and direct with you so you will stop self-sabotaging and get out of your own way? Then come learn some new skills with me! As a professional who has been in therapy before, I understand it’s not always easy. Therapy can be quite beneficial, but there are times it will require a lot of deep self-reflection, hard work, patience, time, and the uncomfortable reality of facing the parts of yourself that aren’t so nice. In fact, there are moments you may not like therapy or even me! I will be honest with you and not just tell you what you want to hear, but of course compassionately. This is a safe space, with no judgment. Therapy does require getting outside one's comfort zone, and while this may seem intimidating and scary at first, I assure you, you don’t have to be afraid because you’re not alone; I am here to guide and support you through the process of your healing journey. Don’t let your fear, anxiety, depression, grief, attachment trauma, or any other issues continue to prevent you from making the changes you want in your life. More than likely, these thoughts and behaviors protected you at some point in time, but now they’re running your life and making you feel miserable instead of happy. Don't be a victim of your circumstances. Once you come through the hard parts you will be all the better for it as you transform into the person you always knew you could be! As an INFJ, Enneagram 4, self-identified HSP, and Pisces, I have all the feels! I enjoy utilizing my strong empathy with a holistic (mind-body) approach to therapy, combining solution-focused & strengths-based techniques along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and alternative methods such as progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness meditation, breathwork, and cultural sensitivity, etc. I am a certified yoga instructor (CYT-200) and am working on my certification in Integrative Mental Health. My style of therapy is more direct, yet collaborative, so I like to ask thought-provoking questions, offer feedback, and provide practical tools for you to work on outside of the session as well as expect you to engage in sessions and have a say in what we talk about. I can only help you when I know what is going on in your life and you attend sessions consistently. If you are motivated to do the work and take that next step, I am here to encourage and empower you! One of my main approaches is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a short-term therapy technique that can help people find new ways to behave by changing their thought patterns. The goal is for you to continue using these tools long after therapy so you can become your own support. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota with over 8 years of experience working as a mental health counselor. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Theater, and English from Dartmouth College and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Bethel University. I have extensive experience as a school-based therapist working with PreK-12th graders and their families. I have also worked in private practice and online settings providing therapy to teens and young adults. I have worked with a wide range of clients of varied ages with various concerns, including stress/anxiety, low self-esteem, identity development, codependency and attachment issues, life transitions, depression, grief/loss, social anxiety, and insomnia. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and Experiential Play Therapy. I am still growing experience in complex trauma (C-PTSD), crisis intervention, self-harming thoughts, and the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tools for emotional dysregulation.

Hello, my name is Nikki Hubbs. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota, with over 10 years of experience working with children and adolescents (ages 5-18) in an in-school setting, as well as adult individuals and families in a clinical setting. I have worked with children, teens, adults, and families with a variety of concerns and life challenges such as depression, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, social concerns, trauma, gender identity concerns, grief and loss, behavioral issues, relationship issues, parenting problems, addiction, suicidality, communication barriers, eating disorders, cognitive distortions, OCD, ADHD, and social, relational, and self-esteem difficulties. As a therapist, I try to remain open-minded, unbias and curious with each and every person I work with, allowing me to better understand the unique experiences, struggles, and issues each individual may be facing. I recognize the uncomfortableness, uneasiness, and uncertainty that therapy may bring so therefore, I try to lessen those feelings by always utilizing genuine compassion, empathy, understanding, and listening. I believe it take strength and courage for a person to reach out for help, to recognize they are unable to do it alone, and to take the first steps towards making change for themselves. Each client's situation is different, so therefore, treatment plans are individualized and uniquely tailored to address identified issues and concerns that each client has and would like to work towards changing for the better. I utilize and combine a multitude of therapeutic approaches and interventions in therapy, most often using a Humanistic, Person-Centered Approach, some other examples are; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. I commend you for recognizing the want and need for change within yourself, and that sometimes life's challenges are bigger than what we are able to handle alone. Please know you are not alone and I am here to help. Thanks :)

Understanding the type of therapy you'd like to search for is crucial before finding a therapist or psychologist in Murdock. Perhaps you're interested in narrowing your search for a psychotherapist that can offer psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, provide group therapy, marriage and family therapy for individuals or couples, or couples therapy. Each type of therapy can offer various benefits and address or treat different disorders. If you're still unsure or are new to counseling in Murdock, feel free to contact the provider via email to find out which methods they practice.

It is also important to understand that mental health professionals in the United States are accredited to provide care, helping individuals and couples, with a variety of licenses. These include licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and clinical psychologist or doctor of psychology (PsyD). Regardless of their licensure, they are trained to treat individuals and couples counseling, and sometimes children, in any type of therapy in the Murdock region and in the state of Minnesota. Find a therapist under any of these distinctions and know that the sessions they offer can provide a safe place to heal.

A mental health counselor working through their own in-person therapy practice in Murdock or online may assist clients in improving healthy relationships, communication skills, working through life transitions, couples counseling, managing a mood disorder, improving coping skills, self help tips, offer life coaching, family therapy, or change in negative thinking patterns. A therapist may also provide a safe place and validation for clients experiencing emotional pain, or that simply want a psychological assessment. Verified providers can provide licensed marriage and couples therapy, tailor to individual needs, and create a therapeutic relationship as a National Certified Counselor.

There are all kinds of therapists working with clients today across the United States and in the greater Murdock area in different types of therapy, including:

  • CBT
  • DBT
  • Substance use therapy
  • Couples therapy

When you're ready to start your search and find Murdock therapists, have in mind what type of therapy you'd like your provider to be most experienced with and choose an experienced provider with a practice located near you in the city of Murdock, elsewhere in Swift, or in the greater state of Minnesota.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about therapists and mental health services

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Murdock area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling with a therapist compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Murdock therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Murdock due to a higher cost of living. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300
  • Therapy with a psychologist: $100

While many psychologists in Murdock may not take health insurance, some in the state of Minnesota may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With a BetterHelp therapist throughout the state of Minnesota you can expect significantly more affordable options, with sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks). If you're looking for a therapist, Cincinnati offers a variety of professionals who can help with your mental health needs at a price you can afford.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Murdock?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Murdock therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Murdock therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Murdock therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Murdock therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in MN, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 56271 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Murdock counselor?

Before seeing your Murdock therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Murdock.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Murdock licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Murdock counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Murdock, Minnesota can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Murdock has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
