Welcome, and thank you for being here to learn more about me to see if we could be a good fit to work together! My name is Stefanie and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Wisconsin. I have over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field and have worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospital, Intensive Outpatient programs, in-home therapy, case management programs and outpatient therapy. All that means is that I have a wide variety of experience that has allowed me to see and work with a wide range and severity of clinical issues. Much of my experience is working with depression, anxiety, complex trauma, PTSD and severe and persistent mental illness, like schizophrenia. Throughout the course of working with those particular mental health issues, I also have worked with family and relationship conflicts and anger issues. My desire to pursue a career in the mental health field began in my senior year of high school and I stayed with that path all throughout my undergraduate and graduate education. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (go Blugolds!) and my Master's degree in Educational Psychology - Community Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After I completed my undergraduate degree, I worked for about one year for the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare as a case manager for families involved in the foster care system. I learned quickly in that job while making referrals for the families on my caseload for mental health services that I wanted to be the person receiving those referrals. I have experienced first-hand mental health issues in my own family and understand how challenging it can be coping with these issues for the person struggling and their loved ones. I also have seen how much life can improve for people when they find the support they need and can begin to take better care of themselves. Despite so much effort to eliminate it, the stigma around mental health remains and I believe that being able to access support online can reach so many more people who want to take steps toward taking better care of themselves. I recently took a few years away from outpatient therapy to be at home with my young, growing family and I think that utilizing online counseling is the perfect fit right now for me and my family. I use a holistic, person-centered, eclectic approach to my work, meaning I will meet you where you are at and tailor my approach to your needs. My treatment approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has been strongly influenced by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also utilize mindfulness techniques, values based therapy and solution focused therapy. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming) for working with people who have experienced trauma. If you are looking for someone to give advice or tell you what to do, I am not your person. I believe in facilitating a conversation that leads you to discovering how you can best cope with, manage and overcome the struggles you have. That sounds like a little “tough love” and I do have that side of me, but I also come from a place of empathy and warmth that helps to foster that conversation to be supportive and effective. I believe that mental health is as important as physical health, and just like it can take time to see positive changes in our physical health and wellness, I believe that mental health requires the same consistency and patience to see positive changes. I look forward to working with you and thank you again for taking the time to get to know me a little better.

A gentle welcome to you. Being lost, lonely and misunderstood can be quite frightening. Better days along your Journey as an individual, or as partners, are possible. Sharing personal stories with a stranger takes courage and I honor that. Your sharing will always remain confidential. You can discover who you are/who you are not, during this process. You can also learn abour your unique personality type and effective communication skills. My counseling values: understanding personal/family/extended family relationships & dynamics, professional work/home life balance, active listening, non-judgmental, insight-oriented, finding meaning/purpose in life. A bit of sage humor can be counted on as well. I look forward to hearing Your Voice and listening to Your Story. "No thing matters unless something is shared from within." Take care, Dr. Craig M. Schneider, Ph.D., LPC Compassionate Counseling Since 1977 PS Please be reminded that I am mandated to report any/all suspected abuse to children, adults, or other vulnerable persons. Also, please note that using a phone app or connecting from a vehicle usually leads to technical difficulties. Google Chrome is the preferred and most reliable means to ensure continuity of care. Also, ensure any, and all, applications, e.g., Zoom, Skype, PhotoBooth, Google Hangouts or any other websites are closed; as these may interfere with the video connection. Couples Therapy: Please indicate if you are meeting with individual therapists for any reason. Driving: I do not provide services while one is driving. Time zones: All appointments are scheduled for Eastern Time What is Counseling? Counseling is a process. Counselors are professionals who chose their vocation because they care about individuals' safety and wellbeing, are empathic listeners, continue their professional development, and want to help. What does a counselor actually do and how can they help me? • Counselors serve as neutral party who listen, create a safe place to dialogue, and make every effort to understand and guide without judgment. • Counselors encourage one to learn about themselves and offer honest/challenging feedback. • Counselors teach/suggest techniques and strategies to assist with discovering ways to approach life's challenges. • Counselors can refer one to additional resources that may be helpful. • Counselors provide a safe place to learn/practice social skills and enhance personal development. What are the limitations of counseling? • Counselors should not tell you what to do or try to direct your life. Think of the proverb: 'Give them a fish, and you feed them for a day. Teach them to fish, and you feed them for life.' • Counselors guide one to learn to identify and resolve one's own challenges, rather than solving them for them. • Some mental health challenges cannot be managed by counseling alone. So, a medication consult may be suggested. • Benefiting from counseling does require work between counseling sessions. Complete homework, practice skills, and make efforts to try the recommendations that are offered. • Counselors cannot be your friend after starting a therapeutic relationship. Counselors generally make every effort to get to know them better. However, ethical principles prevent the formation of relationships outside of treatment. • Counselors trust in the therapeutic relationship resulting in reasonable outcomes. • Counselors encourage questions, concerns, and clarifications at any time during the counseling process.

I am licensed in Wisconsin as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with 10 years of professional work experience both in private practice, and in the clinical setting within a major hospital system. I have experience in helping clients with grief and loss, stress, anxiety, depression, career difficulties, life cycle changes, relationship and family issues, aging, and severe illness. I believe that within each person are the gifts and abilities to work through life's challenges, but that at times we all need help to identify and enhance those abilities. I like working collaboratively with people to draw out those abilities, strengthen them, and add tools and resources to bring about the best outcome possible. I enjoy getting to know people and who they are, where they come from, and forming a therapeutic relationship that is helpful and supportive for the time we have together. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey. I have lived many places in my life and have had a lot of different experiences — from working and living at a remote retreat center in the mountains to working in an inner-city homeless shelter, from attending graduate school in the southern US, to moving back to the Midwest, where I was born and raised. I have experienced loss through the death of a loved one, divorce and subsequent shared custody of my two children who are both now grown and on their own. I love spending time in nature and find it to be a way to center myself so that I can provide good, grounded care to others.

I am a licensed clinical social worker in Minnesota with over 30 years of experience working with kids, young adults, parents, and families, most of whom have been involved in child welfare service systems. I have experience helping adults and kids who are struggling with issues of safety, meeting basic needs, activities of daily living, parenting, or needing connections to their community. I am also especially adept at helping teens and young people transitioning into adulthood plan for their futures regardless of their previous experiences. I have been a college professor for over ten years and help people of any age who are looking at higher education options or struggling to meet personal, social, and educational requirements in college situations. As a helper, I focus on treating everyone with dignity and worth, and listen nonjudgmentally regardless of the situation. I try hard to really understand the person as well as the context within which their problems exist. I primarily use solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy methods. Most importantly, interventions are tailored to what is important to the people I am working with. Every session ends with a plan to take a step forward and create long term changes. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you in starting your best life!

A Saint Croix Falls therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in WI, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 54024 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Saint Croix Falls counselor?

Before seeing your Saint Croix Falls therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Saint Croix Falls.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Saint Croix Falls licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Saint Croix Falls counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Saint Croix Falls has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
