Tatia Miller, MA, LPC, LSOTP, CCM First, let me tell you just a bit about my personal self. I am Texas born and bred. I've only lived outside of this state I love for just three very short periods. I've always come back. My license is only in Texas. And, I've worked my entire adult life in the mental and behavioral health fields. I've been fortunate to always work, but I do have lots of hobbies. I've been married 35 years, have two grown daughters and two very very CUTE grandchildren. My two dogs keep me busy. I do think pugs are so adorable--but probably suffer a bit of ADHD themselves. I am in that age bracket that still worries about my aging dad. My philosophy for therapy and life is very simple. It’s like a recipe. If we take a little of that and a dab of this, we can create something, if not magical—at least edible. Life is not always easy or delectable, but it is usually, at least, a place where we can learn to improve our “recipe” for coping with any of life's struggles. While we can never change events which have occurred, we can develop a different view of what we’ve been through and a plan to create a better outlook- creating a “recipe” of healing and a better emotional state. In my life, I’ve been fortunate to have had the greatest experiences. While I thought I was just working to help take care of my family—feeling grateful to be working in a field I very much love, my path was creating a base and layers of experience which would afford me lots of success, a wealth of ideas and the wisdom to help others. Counseling is a more of a calling for me. I truly believe that without a higher power's direction, I would not be able to have helped others in confronting the experiences and challenges my clients and I have faced together throughout all these years. I'm a firm believer that no one person should spend all their time in therapy. While there are some instances that require a longer modality, most issues can be approached with shorter solutions. This doesn't believe that I think someone can be healed in 6 short sessions. What it does mean is that it is imperative that we use the skills we learn in therapy in our daily lives. Without this step, healing cannot occur. Thus, it is a two-part progression; learn the steps in therapy and then actually use them in daily living. As a result of working so long, I have been privileged to have worked with many populations: neurological disorders such as ADHD, TBI/ABI and autism; depression; chronic mental illness; personality disorders; work-related injuries and chronic health issues. I have worked with both men and women of all generations, as well as helped those who have been to prison/have legal issues; have dealt with grief/loss and have felt compromised by lost relationships such as divorce. If you are seeking a plan of health; a recipe of sorts, which might help you see that more fruitful outlook, I look forward to meeting with you and helping you learn to create the best “recipe” for you to flourish and in being your best self. Thank you for considering me. I so look forward to meeting you!

Hello and welcome! Thank you very much for seeking counseling services. This takes much courage and I admire and applaud you for taking this important step. People seek out counseling for many reasons. Maybe they are feeling lost, maybe they are stuck in a rut, maybe a bad break up has left them in pieces, maybe a traumatic event has been affecting their lives, maybe the use of substances has taken over their lives as they used them to get through the day and now have gone too far, or maybe they are even feeling the abysses of depression and anxiety and can't understand where its coming from. Whatever the reasons for counseling, the rigors of life have affected the person so profoundly that it has made a hard, negative impact in their lives and may feel like they have lost control. In seeking counseling you have made a choice to take back control of your life, You have decided to fight hard against the inner turmoil. I have the upmost respect for you! If you would please allow me to accompany you on your journey to achieve the goals you wish to achieve, I can assure you that I would give you my very best. Your goals are what's important to me and exploring different ways to find that inner peace is something I do not take lightly. My name is Silvestre Rubio, but all my life people have called me Silver. I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology (2011) and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. I have over 9 years of experience in Counseling and assisting people with a variety of diagnoses such as Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Bipolar, Substance Use, and Schizoaffective disorders to name a few. In addition, My approach to treatment entails a few crucial things. We must work hard to establish a good, trusting, strong therapeutic relationship first and foremost. I want you to be comfortable to be able to speak to me about anything and know that you will not be judged. I have your back and your well being as my top priority. We can go at whatever pace you wish to go whether fast or slow and your goals are what I'm here to help you achieve. Together we will explore the things that have been bothering you and come up with a treatment plan with reasonable goals you want. We will immediately learn skills, tools and coping mechanisms to ensure you are equipped to deal with a variety of things in your life. In addition, counseling isn't just about learning skills to "handle" things. Having immediate tools is essential, but what is just as essential is to continue to explore the issues that have been bothering you so that we can get to the root and eventually not even have the negative feelings. For example, when some one is using drugs we learn skills that can help achieve sobriety right away. This is very important, but in order to maintain sobriety, we explore the reasons behind substance use in the first place. This can be uncomfortable and can take time, but once we get to the root of what's causing substance use and eliminate it, then this may be where "true healing" takes place. Whatever the situation may be in your case, I. want you to know that you have my unconditional support and will be with you to help get to where you wish to be. Something that I have learned through my years in counseling is that every person is unique, every person is different, every one has a different view and even with similar issues, counseling sessions have be tailored for everyone's individual needs and goals. This is what you will get from me, a person who sees you as a person and wants to help you be the best you. I'm not here to "shrink" you and most definitely know 100 percent must be given to the session every time. Your thoughts, feelings, emotions matter and I'm here to try and help you. If this is the type of counselor you are looking for, then I'm your guy. I look forward to working with you!

I am an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). I have been seeing clients a little over 4 years. My intial goal in a session is to develop the counselor client relationship. The most effective way I to do this in my experience is too just start up a conversation. Many clients tell me, my sessions are like we are just hanging out having a beer together. As we are having our discussion I'm listening to identify areas where I can help. Thinking distortions are what I'm looking for. I learned in past careers people will provide useful information not even realizing it. During this time I also look for places where a client presents common problems that many people. This is where I let them know they are not alone with these issues.s My favorite issue to address is anxiety. While working in a psych hospital I was able to identify that anxiety is the most common issue clients will easily open up about. General anxiey issues can start to be managed easily with some fairly simple techniques. These same techniques can also be used to help lessen the effexrs of more severe types of anxiety. While anxiety is my favorie to work with I have had success working with clients with erectile dysfunction, sexual anxiety, female intimacy issues, deperssion, paranoia and OCD in my privae practise. While working in the psych hosptal i worked with suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, severe depression, psychosis, anxiety and a wide range of geriatric problems.

How to find a therapist for counseling in Palisades

Finding the best therapist close by in Palisades can feel challenging, but know that once you narrow your search for a counselor serving your area, you can find a therapist in your city that is accepting new clients and fits your goals. Whether you're struggling with depression, anxiety, marriage, family issues, or other emotional challenges, feel proud that you have begun your search to find the mental health care services in Palisades that work best for you in order to begin your personal journey towards emotional healing with a therapist.

Understanding the type of therapy you'd like to search for is crucial before finding a therapist or psychologist in Palisades. Perhaps you're interested in narrowing your search for a psychotherapist that can offer psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, provide group therapy, marriage and family therapy for individuals or couples, or couples therapy. Each type of therapy can offer various benefits and address or treat different disorders. If you're still unsure or are new to counseling in Palisades, feel free to contact the provider via email to find out which methods they practice.

It is also important to understand that mental health professionals in the United States are accredited to provide care, helping individuals and couples, with a variety of licenses. These include licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and clinical psychologist or doctor of psychology (PsyD). Regardless of their licensure, they are trained to treat individuals and couples counseling, and sometimes children, in any type of therapy in the Palisades region and in the state of Texas. Find a therapist under any of these distinctions and know that the sessions they offer can provide a safe place to heal.

A mental health counselor working through their own in-person therapy practice in Palisades or online may assist clients in improving healthy relationships, communication skills, working through life transitions, couples counseling, managing a mood disorder, improving coping skills, self help tips, offer life coaching, family therapy, or change in negative thinking patterns. A therapist may also provide a safe place and validation for clients experiencing emotional pain, or that simply want a psychological assessment. Verified providers can provide licensed marriage and couples therapy, tailor to individual needs, and create a therapeutic relationship as a National Certified Counselor.

There are all kinds of therapists working with clients today across the United States and in the greater Palisades area in different types of therapy, including:

  • CBT
  • DBT
  • Substance use therapy
  • Couples therapy

When you're ready to start your search and find Palisades therapists, have in mind what type of therapy you'd like your provider to be most experienced with and choose an experienced provider with a practice located near you in the city of Palisades, elsewhere in Randall, or in the greater state of Texas.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about therapists and mental health services

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Palisades area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling with a therapist compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Palisades therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Palisades due to a higher cost of living. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300
  • Therapy with a psychologist: $100

While many psychologists in Palisades may not take health insurance, some in the state of Texas may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With a BetterHelp therapist throughout the state of Texas you can expect significantly more affordable options, with sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks). If you're looking for a therapist, Cincinnati offers a variety of professionals who can help with your mental health needs at a price you can afford.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Palisades?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Palisades therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Palisades therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Palisades therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Palisades therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in TX, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 79118 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Palisades counselor?

Before seeing your Palisades therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Palisades.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Palisades licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Palisades counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Palisades, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Palisades has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
