7 years of experience as a mental health therapist

Hello! My name is Veronica Cavazos and I am a licensed professional counselor. I have worked in mental health for the past 14 years and have practiced as a therapist for 7. My experience in mental health has primarily been with community health clinics, however I did spend some time as a therapist in a local psychiatric hospital. I am trained and certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and find it to be the most helpful and useful when working with patients of all ages. The goal-oriented approach of CBT helps to keep individuals focused on what they want to achieve. The approach is not just about how we feel but how we think; directing those negative thoughts in a direction where we can achieve a goal can be empowering. I find having useful tools and handouts helps individuals see their struggles a little more clearly. This can help them to focus on areas of improvement and catching where they can redirect themselves. The strategies of CBT which I find most helpful include, identification, practice of skills and techniques, setting attainable goals, and problem solving. Strategies that can be used even after therapy has been completed. For me CBT is most useful because it can be utilized as a short-term therapy approach and it is structured; helpful to therapist and clients. In my years of working in the field the age range I have worked with spans from a child as young as 3 and the parents to individuals of the elderly age. Although I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, I feeling I am most comfortable with teen to adult aged individuals. The issues I have experience working with include depression, anxiety, relationship and marriage issues, parenting issues, career challenges and trauma. I consider myself to be a caring person as is my approach and style with counseling. CBT allow for the patient and the therapist to work together and I feels it allow us to get to know each other as well. I don't present to be all knowing and like to share experiences and techniques that have helped me along the way in my journey. My goal is to help you recognize your strengths to allow you to see how to over come your difficulties. It takes courage to ask for help and sometimes more to look for it. I praise you for reaching out and I hope we can work together to achieve your goals. CBT is a team effort, I hope as a team we can make positive things happen. My current availability is Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9am - 1pm. Would you like to schedule an appointment?

WHAT GROWTH AND CHANGE DO NOT NEED TO BE: * painful or hard * take months or years * reliving all of the painful junk that you've already survived * being formal, awkward, or uncomfortable (newsflash: upleveling your life can actually be FUN!) * talking about alllll of the things that are not working in your life In fact, not only is it not necessary to talk incessantly about all of the things going wrong in your life in order to change them, I can tell you that that's exactly what we WON'T focus on in our work together. Instead, we'll focus on where you are HEADING and the life you TRULY want to create. Then we'll get you aligned with that desire and get the gunk out of the way that is blocking you (which is just the parts of you that are trying to protect you). HEY THERE! I'M DeANNE JOY. MY SUPERPOWER IS HELPING PEOPLE UNLEARN FEAR AND RECONNECT WITH THEIR AUTHENTIC TRUTH. What does that look like? It looks like releasing the old beliefs, thoughts, habits, and patterns that are no longer serving you. Falling in love with those parts of you that protect you when your 'stuff' comes up. Living fully, loving deeply, and sharing your gifts in the world. I am here to meet you where you are and support you 150% with what you want to create. A little about me... I'm a little bit spiritual, a TON of love and compassion, a heap of joy and FUN, mixed in with a whole lotta science, psychology, world-class tools, and no b.s. empowering accountability. I've had a three-decade career as a: * clinical therapist * end-of-life and trauma social worker * confidence & belief change coach * women's transformation coach * speaker * best-selling author * personal and leadership development facilitator I incorporate all of my experience and expertise, using both traditional therapy models (Cognitive-Behavioral, Person-Centered, Experiential, Solution-Focused, Strengths-Based, Humanistic) as well as world-class tools for rapid, long-term change including Tapping/EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Mindfulness, Meditation, Rapid Belief Change, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Hypnotherapy, and Guided Visualization, among others. I use the tools, techniques, and modalities that are most effective and most aligned with each individual client. I believe that we all have gifts that we are meant to share in the world, and that life is too short to accept less than what we deserve and are capable of. My gift is being a catalyst for transformation, joy, and peace on the planet. If you're willing to show up for yourself, roll up your sleeves, and do the work to reconnect with YOU, I'll be right there to guide you through it and you will undoubtedly experience great growth here. LGBTQ+ ally, member, supporter. This is a safe space for you to explore ALL of you, authentically and unapologetically, with no limits. WHO I AM NOT A GOOD FIT FOR: * You are not ready or willing to roll up your sleeves and do the deep work to create the life you truly want * You are not open to someone standing fiercely for your growth (that would be me), including compassionately yet firmly holding you to what you say you want * You are committed to going it alone * You are looking for someone else to do the work for you * You want your journey to be hard, boring, or uncomfortable (in fact, if you're NOT open to having this process be FUN and LIGHT, I'm probably not the most aligned person for you to work with) Good for you for starting by checking this out. When you're ready to say YES to you, I'm here. Let's do's your time!

Understanding the type of therapy you'd like to search for is crucial before finding a therapist or psychologist in Orange Grove. Perhaps you're interested in narrowing your search for a psychotherapist that can offer psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, provide group therapy, marriage and family therapy for individuals or couples, or couples therapy. Each type of therapy can offer various benefits and address or treat different disorders. If you're still unsure or are new to counseling in Orange Grove, feel free to contact the provider via email to find out which methods they practice.

It is also important to understand that mental health professionals in the United States are accredited to provide care, helping individuals and couples, with a variety of licenses. These include licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and clinical psychologist or doctor of psychology (PsyD). Regardless of their licensure, they are trained to treat individuals and couples counseling, and sometimes children, in any type of therapy in the Orange Grove region and in the state of Texas. Find a therapist under any of these distinctions and know that the sessions they offer can provide a safe place to heal.

A mental health counselor working through their own in-person therapy practice in Orange Grove or online may assist clients in improving healthy relationships, communication skills, working through life transitions, couples counseling, managing a mood disorder, improving coping skills, self help tips, offer life coaching, family therapy, or change in negative thinking patterns. A therapist may also provide a safe place and validation for clients experiencing emotional pain, or that simply want a psychological assessment. Verified providers can provide licensed marriage and couples therapy, tailor to individual needs, and create a therapeutic relationship as a National Certified Counselor.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Orange Grove counselor?

Before seeing your Orange Grove therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Orange Grove.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Orange Grove licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Orange Grove counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Orange Grove, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Orange Grove has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
