Hello!

Thank you for your question.  My name is Angie Krilich, I'm a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in Indiana.

Not all counselors in Indiana take Medicaid, it really depends on their license type (licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and familiy therapist (LMFT), etc.), the agency or place they work for, and the types of clients they tend to see.  Most Community Mental Health Agencies have counselors that will take Medicaid, but many counselors in private practice or other counseling centers will also take Medicaid.

Here is a link that might be helpful in finding a counselor or a service near you that also takes Medicaid  - https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/indiana.  You can then search based on your area, the insurance you have, the type of counselor you are looking for and issues you are currently having.   Most have profile pictures and information about them to give you an idea of who they are and what services they offer.

Many hospitals have counselors affiliated with them, so that can be a good place to look as well.  You might also reach out to your primary care physician to see if they have counselors or agencies that they typically refer people to for help.  I would also encourage you to look at the Medicaid site in Indiana - https://www.in.gov/medicaid/members/index.html.  By clicking on the Adults tab at the top, you can then select your type of Medicaid.  This can give you additional information about your plan and providers that are covered.

If you are in the greater Indianapolis area, Eskenazi Health offers a lot of services for those who have Medicaid - there are various mental health clinics for various diagnoses and levels of care.  In addition, they offer mental health services in their primary care centers.

Unfortunately, an online site such as BetterHelp does not take insurance, but you could get services if you are willing to pay out of pocket.

If you want to provide me with some additional information on where you are and what sort of counselor you are looking for, I may be able to provide some more directed help in finding someone who will take your insurance.

Thank you again for reaching out.
