Can I change therapists?

I have a very difficult trying developing trust with a therapist. I have gone through abuse that is difficult to share and I have done things I for which I feel a great deal of shame and I feel like I will be judged, even by someone whose job it is to help me. If I can't develop that relationship with the person assigned to me, can I ask for someone else? And what if that person doesn't work out? I have been in counseling many times and the only person I ever I ever trusted retired, and I have been struggling ever since then.

BetterHelp is such a great portal. It offers so many great tools for both the therapist and the client's convenience. As therapist we are able to narrow down our specialities. This allows connecting easier. We are referred clients that fall into our specialities or we are also able to refer if we do not have the skills to help. From the beginning you are able to narrow what kind of therapist you want by answering questions and building your own profile. This allows the portal to set you up with a therapist that best matches your needs. We then also make sure that we have the tools to help you before connect. That is what makes this platform so great. You have the ability to change therapist whenever you want. You will just let BetterHelp support know and they will switch you. You do not need to notify the therapist, if you do not feel comfortable. The portal will let the therapist know that you have chosen to see another persons perspective. We as therapist understand that we will not connect with everyone or that you might need someone else's perspective. Aside from being able to make changes, you also have the choice what type of service you want. You can choose from email, chat, phone or video sessions. So if you are wanting to start with only one and work your way up in order to build the trust that is also an option. You are able to take the sessions at your own pace. We offer great worksheets that you are able to work on your own. They also have a journal section. This can be set private or you can share with your therapist. We as therapist understand how difficult it is to open up to someone. We also know and understand that we have different approaches. Your journey to healing is important to us. You have a right to continue looking for the right therapist until you feel comfortable and safe. They also offer Groupinars.  BetterHelp has made therapy so much easier for both the therapist and client. I wish you luck in your journey!
