Is depression manageable?
Hi,
Thank you for your question about depression. I am not sure where you are based but if you are in the UK your GP might be able to diagnose depression a service you do not have to pay for in the UK or refer you to a mental health team in your area, again this will be free.
In answer to your question though, yes depression is manageable and/or able to be reduced significantly with the right help and support. This can be reached in severals ways, by talking it through with a counsellor/therapist to find out what is at the root cause of your low mood/depression, a visit to the GP or mental health team. The fact that you are looking and reaching out is a good sign as it shows you are motivated to get yourself better.
Understanding what depression is, is the first step to your road of recovery. Effective therapy will make it easier for you and it is very important to find the right therapist for you who will offer you a safe space, give you the correct tools and knowledge so that you can address the depression .
What I have noticed in your question is that you have already observed the symptoms of depression and what triggers you which is a brilliant place to start. You can then, with the help of a therapist utilize the knowledge about depression to empower yourself to beat it.
One of the things that your therapist may help you with is discovering a range of coping mechanisms. In your question you say that you do not know how to avoid your condition becoming worse when you feel stressed. Whilst stress for some may be a positive influence developing resilience through coping strategies will help.
Some of these might be: breathing techniques for self regulation, creating a safe and special space for you, anxious thinking exercise, needs audit on yourself, looking into what healthy relationships look like.
I hope that helps with the question you have asked and you find a way forward to help you on your road of recovery.
