How Relationships Work

Relationships involve the coming together of two souls…good, bad, indifferent…the complete coming together of two individual people who bring together their own beings and decide they will share or join or bring together these entirely separate entities and at least for some of the time, in some ways, become one.

So, if that seems as if it may be no simple task, then congratulations!  You are correct!  Because while it may surely be simple, it is ANYTHING but easy!

Have you ever heard that relationships take a lot of hard work?  They have not been lying.  They do!

And the truth is that the more you know about each element that comprises that relationship, the better your chances are of having it work properly. That, for whatever it's worth, has to make sense.

Relationships predominantly operate at their maximum when two major ingredients work together effectively.  Those two agreed upon (by experts the world over agree with) are communication and trust. If we can incorporate a solid level of trust and combine it with a proper method of communication, we are well on our way to creating a solid relationship.

Relationships work because WE work. We begin to understand who we are and how we are; only after we truly know that can we begin to move forward! To share a life with another person, it serves us well to know what it is that we are sharing. Many people unknowingly enter into very unfulfilled relationships. Without realizing it, we expect our partner to fill what we ourselves lack.

This rarely works, but not because we intend it to fail. We believe the problem is with the other person rather than with ourselves. We fall into the pattern of looking out rather than in, and we see everything about our partner that isn’t working to make us feel better. We see all their faults and shortcomings.

For relationships to work, we must be content individually to a fair degree and then bring that level of ‘okayness’ with us to provide that to the person we choose to move through life with. The more we know ourselves and learn to accept our own sense of humanity, bring compassion and respect to our own unique being, the more likely we are to offer the same to our special person as we go through life together.
