Are relationships hard
Are relationships hard? I think there is no right or wrong answer to this question. Much of it depends on what type of relationship we are talking about and what level of emotion is involved in the relationship. The amount of emotion is going to be much different between the relationship you have with a coworker than the relationship you have with your spouse or significant other I think another way of looking at this is the idea of whether or not relationships take work to maintain- and to that, I would say ‘absolutely”.
More often than not, the deeper the level of relationship, the more work it takes to maintain it. Think of relationships like plants. If you leave a plant alone, do not nurture it, and provide it with the necessary things to sustain life, the plant will not survive. The same is true of relationships. For a relationship to grow or even maintain life, there needs to be work involved. In a relationship, the work must be done by both parties involved. This is true of all relationships, including friends, co-workers, and romantic or significant other relationships. Thinking back to previous relationships, what was it that led to their ending? Often, one person in the relationship stopped putting in the work to keep it going. Even though the amount of work might not be significant, it is still necessary for the relationship to continue, at least on some level.
Despite the work involved, relationships can also be rewarding. Also, keep in mind when the work is done by everyone involved, it will not seem as daunting. Many positives can come from relationships that can make it all worthwhile. And while there is work involved, it does not mean the work has to be hard. Keep in mind the amount of work you are doing versus the other person or persons involved in the relationship. If you are doing more work than the other party, this could signify an unhealthy relationship.
