How can I keep my relationship?
Thank you for reaching out to BetterHelp for assistance. I look forward to assisting you.
Sounds like you would like to know how you can keep your relationship? Sounds like your boyfriend cheated on you, after you had your daughter, and had a baby. Sounds like you are grieving this and the lack of trust, communication and respect from your boyfriend.
Grief happens when you lose something. No one died, but you lost trust and respect with your boyfriend, when he cheated on you and had a baby. Sounds like you and your boyfriend had just had a baby of your own and you needed him to be there with support and love for you and your new baby. This makes perfect sense and I can understand.
Grief goes in stages. You have shock, this is where you find out he has cheated and you can not believe that it happened. You might go numb and you can not understand why this happened. The next stage is denial. This would be where you do not want to think about it. I do not believe you are in denial stage because you are talking about it and you have reached out to BetterHelp to ask the question. The next three stages are the crucial stages and the stages that many people get stuck in. They are anger, depression and guilt. Many people get stuck in these stages. They get anger at the person for cheating on them and might act out with their anger. Depression could happen when you start to think negative, worse case thinking, not taking good care of yourself. Negative thinking is the perfect recipe for depression. Guilt would be where you might beat yourself up and wonder did you do something wrong or why did you not see this earlier with your boyfriend.
I would suggest you use some cognitive behavioral therapy/ CBT and work on challenging your thoughts and not going to negative or worse case thinking. This type of thinking will make you depressed. You need to put your oxygen mask on and take good care of yourself. Just like you do on an airplane prior to helping other people. You need to challenge your thoughts and ask yourself: is thinking this way helping me or hurting me.
You also want to do things with your boyfriend that will help your relationship. This would include going to counseling for couples, communication and working on your relationship. You cannot change the past but you can learn from it.
I hope this helped you some and I look forward to talking with you soon.
