How do I

I’ve been dating this guy from work for a couple months now. He does all the things guys do when they care about you: takes me on dates, gives me quality time, says “us” phrases, helps me with my new career path, everything. But he hasn't fully committed. I feel like we keep hitting bumps in our growth. I know he cares about me, but i don't know if it's enough to be together. I don’t want to waste any more time.

Deciding if someone is the 'right' one is no easy task. It is easy to overthink or not give things enough thought. So, I appreciate your predicament.

When you say, 'has not fully committed,' are you saying this as how you are feeling or him? Can you explain some of the road bumps you may be experiencing? If these road bumps are about differences in likes, wants or needs. There are some things that could be tried to work through them.

I like to create a non-negotiable vs negotiable list. Within this list, identify non-negotiables. These may include religion, wanting a family, employment. Things on this list are MUST HAVES. On the negotiable side, create things you would like but feel like you could cope with. These may include, favorite movies/hobbies, liking it hot or cold, education level, favorite foods. Things on this list are WANTS not NEEDS.

After you compile your list, see if he meets your non-negotiable side. If he doesn't, then I would encourage you to decide if he is "Wasting your time."  Some ideas/thoughts on how to work through this.... If a friend was experiencing the same, how would you help them decide if the relationship was worth pursing?

Have you explored or considered having a talk with him about your concerns? This may help alleviate your thoughts and worries. Overall, there is no easy fix. Lots of things to work out, however, talking with him may provide some quick and needed feedback.

If not, consider what you would tell someone else in your position or create that list to provide some insight into where to start on this journey. I wish you the best, be kind to yourself during this time. These are big decisions to make. I applaud you seeking out a sounding board to work through them with your during this time.

Sending good thoughts your way.
