Relationships Will Get Boring?

Relationships change

There can be a great deal of excitement when relationships begin, but relationships can become far more satisfying after the partners no longer have butterflies in their stomachs when around each other. Partners may not miss each other as much when away, but they may have a deeper connection when together. Partners may become more aware of the imperfect nature of their partners but may also feel more accepted and genuinely loved as their partner becomes more aware of their own imperfections. So, rather than looking at relationships as growing “boring”, it may be better to consider that relationships change and can actually become more intimate.

Relationships grow and help each person grow

It can be easy to take a relationship for granted, and for some couples in long-term relationships, they don’t really know how special their connection was until the relationship has ended. Relationships grow, and they allow each person in the relationship to grow. While there may be a great deal of physical attraction in early relationships, unconditional love can grow as the relationship matures.

Making compromises

When one or both partners are feeling dissatisfied with a relationship, communication issues may be a primary reason. Another common reason relationships can struggle is that one partner does not feel a sense of power over the relationship and feels that he or she provides far more attention, affection, and flexibility to the other person than he is receiving in return.

Partners in relationships will often not want the exact same things; they may have different ideas of what kind of home they want to live in, where they want to go on vacation, how they want to spend their weekends, etc., and this is why compromise in relationships is imperative. Without it, a person can feel taken for granted and hold resentment, or even feel that his or her thoughts do not matter—and that can lead to a rather “boring” relationship. So, it is important for each partner to work on being assertive with each other about what he or she wants, and even more importantly, to listen to the other person and prioritize, when appropriate, the couple’s or family’s happiness.
