Mindfulness is the technique and or practice that mainly focuses on an individual being present in the moment. It is based on an individual's practice and or method, ultimately focusing on the “here and now.” Individuals who actively practice using mindfulness techniques, skills, and or strategies find it very useful. Recent research studies state that Mindfulness works for helping individuals who struggle with some factors that included but are not limited to the following: mental health issues, physical health issues, relationship issues, social issues, etc. Mindfulness works because it helps individuals work on self-regulation practices that can help an individual focus on ultimately giving attention in the present moment to the process of their mental and emotional stressor. At present, they are experiencing the situation, problem, issue, and or concern. The individual can ultimately take the time to think about their emotional stressor when they are experiencing it.

Mindfulness can be very helpful in allowing an individual to actively work on becoming calmer at the moment with the use of the practice of mindfulness techniques as the individual is taking the time to focus and become present at the moment. I can allow the individual to control their thoughts and feelings to become actively present at the moment, ultimately leading to a client becoming calmer where a situation and/or issue can be de-escalated more safely. As the individual becomes calm, they will be in a better mental and or emotional space to properly process their current situation, problem, issue, and or concern for more accuracy in the present moment. During that time of calmness, an individual can take the time to process how their personal automatic thoughts and feelings can be irrational and or negative at the moment, so it is important to take the time to process the automatic though and or feelings for accuracy versus just allowing their assumption and or opinion to cause them emotional and or mental distress at the moment.
