To some certain degree, dating is an ever-changing process, both personally and in a general sense.  From this perspective, the concept of dating continues to evolve, as do humans.  Long ago, there were certain standards for dating/courtship.  It was often pre-determined by a family you were allowed to “date,” and this phrase is used a bit more loosely as it was more an arrangement for marriage versus actual dating.  As the years progressed, dating changed into arrangements to spend time with another person without the expectations of marriages, yet there were still social standards associated with dating.  Current trends have shown that dating is more common than years prior; it is more a social norm to dating for multiple years before committing to a lifelong partner.  It is quite likely that as our culture continues to evolve, people’s perceptions of dating will change as well.

On an interpersonal level, as we grow and mature, our concept of dating will absolutely change as well. When you are younger, pre-teen, and below, your belief about dating is typically about your growing concept of attraction to another person.  But your knowledge about intimacy is limited, so how you approach the idea of dating is immature by nature.  As your brain develops, you will start to learn more about the intricacies of dating and committing to a relationship with another person.  This is typically learned by your environment/peers.  Usually, as an adult, your concept of dating is much more consistent, but parts of your personality may change; thus, affecting the way you view dating.

Perhaps there will be some dating traditions maintains but this is determined on a personal level.  You may have been raised to have certain expectations when being courted/taken on a date; these customs are likely to be engrained in your mind so that you will maintain them.  Certainly, there is some value to maintaining certain dating traditions if you find it suits you; but this will vary on an individual level, and not everyone will have the same traditions.  This is something to consider when dating someone who perhaps has a different view on dating.
