Mindfulness is important because it allows individuals to focus on the present moment. In focusing on the “here and now.” Individuals can take the time to process their thoughts and feelings in the present moment. In focusing on the present moment, an individual can take the time to calm down to adjust their thinking and reframe their thoughts. We call have automatic thoughts that pop into our minds in the present moment. Mindfulness matters because, with the use of Mindfulness, we can take the time to process and challenge those automatic thoughts for accuracy.

Automatic thoughts can absolutely be believable, but they are not necessarily factual. Therefore, an individual must take the time to process their automatic thoughts in a safe and conducive environment. This realization that automatic thoughts are believable but not factual can be a great time to utilize Mindfulness practices, techniques, and or strategies to access the automatic thoughts for their accuracy. Automatic thoughts can surely allow an individual to use Mindfulness as a practice tool and technique to process and challenge those automatic thoughts for their factual context or lack of truth. This strategy has proven to be more effective with the use of Mindfulness because the client can take the time to stop, think and process their concern, issue problem, experience, and or struggle in the present moment before actively engaging in an irrational decision.

Researchers shared that Mindfulness helps with allowing individuals to become aware of their mental and or emotional thoughts and feelings at the moment to decrease emotional distress. The cognitive awareness of an individual’s emotions and feelings can be quite beneficial in helping an individual enhance their emotional self-regulation with the use of Mindfulness strategies and techniques. Mindfulness matters because research has proven that Mindfulness can significantly improve the following. This list includes but is not limited to how Mindfulness can improve the following. Mindfulness has been proven to effectively decrease negative and or irrational thoughts and feelings, decrease stress, increase concentration, and improve the ability to focus.
